Veteran Telugu actor and former BJP MLA Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away at the age of 83 in Hyderabad on Sunday due to age-related health issues. Known for his powerful performances across genres, Rao had been battling prolonged illness in recent years.
Kota Srinivasa Rao, a towering figure in Indian cinema, acted in over 750 films during a remarkable career spanning more than four decades. He made his debut with the 1978 film Pranam Khareedu, which also marked the entry of Chiranjeevi.
Known for his versatility, delivered memorable performances in films like Pratighatana, Satruvu, Aha Naa Pellanta, Gaayam, Hello Brother, and Aa Naluguru. Kota Srinivasa Rao Agreed to Hari Hara Veera Mallu Only for Pawan Kalyan.
In one of his final interviews, Kota Srinivasa Rao shared his joy at having recently worked on the upcoming period drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu.
Despite his ill health, Kota accepted the role out of admiration and respect for Pawan Kalyan, stating that the filmmakers approached him knowing his condition but still believed he was the right fit for the special role.
The veteran actor shot for two days and expressed excitement about being part of the project. Hari Hara Veera Mallu, set to release on July 31, 2025, will now serve as a fitting tribute and final on-screen appearance of one of Telugu cinema’s most legendary performers.
Hari Hara Veera Mallu is directed by Jothi Krishna and is set to release in two parts, though it remains unclear in which part Kota Srinivasa Rao will make his final appearance.
The film features music by MM Keeravani and stars Niddhi Agerwal as the female lead. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made for Kota’s funeral in Hyderabad later on Sunday, which will be conducted with state honours, paying tribute to his extraordinary contributions to cinema and public service.
